Here are a few more pictures from a roll I got back from the developers today.
Here is a mix I made for Halloween from my record collection. Had to cut some tunes out to keep the length down. I was going way over an hour. Of the ones I have put on the mix, my favorites are The Champs Boys Orchestras seriously funky, disco version of ‘Tubular Bells’, The Chills ‘Pink Frost’ a chilling song about murder, Q Lazzarus ‘Goodbye Horses’ and Slayer ‘South of Heaven’ one of my favorite bands from my childhood. Well I hope you enjoy it and that it gets you in the mood for the best holiday of the year.

I mentioned before on my Hands of Fire post, I had a few photographs left over from that shoot that never saw the light of day. So for fun, and with a slight feeling of Halloween, I chose to illustrate one of them. To mix it up a bit, I decided to have a go at cross hatching. Not my area of expertise, I must admit, but the result was not too shabby. I do need practice, possibly a few pointers or tips from an expert. But I’m otherwise happy with this piece. I’m hoping to do more of them and you the viewer will hopefully see an improvement.
Aaanyways, the idea for this image was a sort of homagé of a photograph called ‘Ghost’ by Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewic that Richie had seen recently at an exhibition in Ireland, spring 2011.

I tried to get more experimental with this self portait. Watercolour is a hard medium to work with. Very difficult to get expressive strokes and in a way you would like. With oil or acrylics you can go over or scrape away. With watercolour its basically one chance and if you make a mistake or not 100% happy with it you just accept it and move on.
I miss Ireland, my friends and family. The humour, the culture, the people. These are the great things about Ireland. It’s not like anywhere I have been before or since.
The longer I live away from Ireland the more I read about it, the more it depresses me. The all-round scandals in the church, the selling off of our oil & gas reserves, the corrupt government, the debt, the banks. There are so many things wrong in the workings of Ireland. Mainly high up at the unattainable. How this fairly new country was ripped apart and sold for greed. It saddens me that what my grandparents fought for nearly one hundred years ago was for nothing. It saddens me more that the people I love have to struggle on, paying hand over fist with no end in sight. To pay the coffers of the people who themselves are destroying a beautiful country of extraordinary talent and potential. To have Enda Kenny TD, our Taoiseach, on the cover of Time magazine as our hero is a crude slap in the face. We need change.
As I have said in my About page I am an avid collector of vinyl. I love it when you go on into a record shop not knowing what you are going to come back out with. There is no following the next new band i.e. on the internet. Its just you on a personal journey, sniffing around until you find something you like.
So, I decided to challenge myself and figure out how to use Ableton properly and so I made a little disco mix. I don’t like cutting out on songs too much I like to let them play out. So towards the end of the mix there are a few odysseys. Enjoy.
Please share or comment if you like it. Suggestions welcome for more mixes.
